My Favorite Bullet Journaling Supplies

My favorite bullet journaling supplies

As I gear up for my second bullet journal for the year, I thought I would take some time to share some of my favorite bullet journaling supplies. These are things that I use consistently, month-to-month, and often day-to-day. Some of them, I’ve used since I started bullet journaling in 2017; others I found more recently through trial-and-error.

Note: this is not a sponsored post, and none of these links are affiliate links — they’re simply products I personally enjoy using!

Favorite Bullet Journal Notebook: Leuchtterm1917 Medium (A5) Dotted Journal

Every time I think about branching out to a different notebook, I keep coming back to this one. It has more pages (251) than most I’ve seen, which makes it perfect for my bullet journaling system. I don’t use the official “Bullet Journal,” because I find I don’t nee the extra dedicated pages. But I do enjoy picking out a new color every year or half-year.

Favorite Black Pen: Pentel EnerGel RTX Gel Pen (Needle-Point: 0.3mm)

I use this pen for everything. Journaling, keeping track of tasks in my business planner, scribbling notes on scrap paper or notepads, paperwork — anything that I just want to write in standard black ink.

I’m partial to gel pens, and this one is both super fine-tip and dries very quickly, which is great for my small handwriting and working in my bullet journal. (The website linked above also sells refills, which means I don’t have to replace the entire pen every time it runs out of ink!)

Favorite Colored Pens: Uni-ball Signo UM-151 Gel Pens (0.38mm)

As I said, I’m partial to gel pens. I tend to have a heavier hand when writing, so felt-tip pens have ended up breaking on me in the past. I tried a number of colored pens of various types before landing on these, and I don’t know that I’ll ever look back.

Favorite Brush Pens:

Zebra Pen Mildliner Double-Ended Brush and Fine Tip Pen

These were some of the first brush pens I tried, and I still love them! They’ve got a great range of colors, and I like that they have a lighter color. I use them mostly for highlighting, but also for drawing and coloring as well.

Tombow Dual Brush Pens

So far, I’ve only used the grayscale set, but I love the colors of these as well. I’m sure in the future I’ll have to try more of them!

Favorite stencil/tracing supplies:

Helix Angle and Circle Maker

I just got this one last Christmas, and it’s been a game changer. I used it create circle designs on my monthly cover pages in my current journal, as well as the circle habit trackers in my April and June monthly spreads.

Ruler

Where would I be without my ruler? I cannot for the life of me draw straight lines, even with dot grids to guide me, so I rely heavily on a ruler. The one I use has cm markings, which is super helpful since the dot grid in my journals are spaced at roughly 1/2 cm apart.

I have run into one small issue when using a ruler with gel pens — even ones that are as fast-drying as the ones I use. Sometimes the ink will gather on the edge of the ruler and smear onto the page. So I keep a tissue handy to wipe off excess ink from the ruler every so often.

While these are my favorite bullet journaling supplies for a reason, I’m always on the hunt for new journaling tools and stationery! I’d love to hear some of your favorites!
